Work

I'm a new studio, so rather than borrow someone else's logos, I designed and built two complete concept sites for fictional businesses. Click through and browse them like a customer would. Your business could be my first real case study, at a price that reflects that.

Concept project · fictional client

Cedar & Steam Coffee Co.

Neighborhood café, Ballard

The problemA beloved café that regulars adore but newcomers can't find: hours wrong on Google, the menu a blurry PDF, nothing that works on a phone.

The approachA warm, brand-led site built around the three things a café visitor actually wants: are you open, where are you, and what's on the menu.

Design decisions
  • Hours, address, and directions in the very first screen, so nobody scrolls to find out if they're open
  • Menu as real text, not a PDF: it loads instantly, is searchable, and works with screen readers
  • Designed phone-first, because people check while standing on the sidewalk

Sound Side Plumbing

Home services, King County

The problemTwenty years of word-of-mouth work, but new customers search Google first, and competitors with worse reviews were winning the click.

The approachA conversion-first site that does one job: make it effortless for a stressed homeowner to call the right plumber.

Design decisions
  • A call button that stays visible on mobile, because a burst pipe is not a browsing session
  • License number and reviews above the fold, because trades live and die on trust
  • One clear section per service, so searches like “water heater repair” land somewhere specific

  • No contract. Cancel with an email

Not sure which fits? Send the form below and I'll tell you honestly, including if the honest answer is that you don't need me yet.

How it works

  1. Say hello

Fill in the form with a few details. I reply within one business day, usually with a few questions and a ballpark.

  2. Plan and price

We agree on exactly what's being built, by when, and for how much, in writing. No surprises later.

  3. Design and build

You see real progress early and often, and your feedback shapes it. Two full revision rounds are included.

  4. Launch and handover

I handle the domain and Google setup, then walk you through making your own edits. Or the Care Plan does it for you.

Jay Zhu, web designer in the Greater Seattle Area

About Jay

I studied Applied & Computational Mathematical Sciences at the University of Washington, and I bring the same care to websites that I'd want for my own neighborhood spots: clear, fast, and honest.

I'm at the start of my career, and I'd rather earn your trust than fake a track record. For you that means no agency overhead and no handing your project to a junior. It's just me, giving your website my full attention at a price that reflects where I am.

What I'm really building is long-term relationships. I want to be the person you can text in five years when something needs changing, and I want the businesses that make this corner of Washington good to be easy for everyone to find.

Common questions

How much does a website actually cost?

Starter sites begin at $1,500 and full business sites at $3,500. After you send the form I'll give you an exact written quote, and that number doesn't change unless we both agree to change the scope.

How long will it take?

About two weeks for a Starter Site and about four for a Business Site, counted from when we agree on the plan. Your written quote includes the timeline.

You're just starting out. Why should I trust you?

Fair question. The concept sites above show exactly how I think and build, we agree on everything in writing before money moves, and you see the design early and often, so you're never waiting in the dark. My prices also reflect where I am; they'll go up as my case studies become real ones.

Who owns the website when it's done?

You do, completely. The domain is registered in your name, you get every login, and if you ever want to take it elsewhere, it goes with you.

Do I have to buy the Care Plan?

No. Every launch ends with me showing you how to make your own edits. The Care Plan exists for owners who'd rather never think about their website again.

My business already has a website. Can you fix it instead?

Usually, yes. Send me the address in the form and I'll take a look. Sometimes a redesign makes sense, sometimes small fixes do, and I'll tell you which.

Can you add online ordering or bookings?

Simple bookings and order links, yes. For full online stores I'll be straight with you about whether I'm the right person or a specialist would serve you better.
